Frequently Asked Questions and Conference Policies

What does it cost to attend the conference?

It costs $50 to register before Sept. 1 or $75 in September. University students may register for free. This includes university students from NMSU as well as other academic institutions. If high school groups wish to attend, please call 575-646-2066 to check space availability.

We make every effort to ensure that this conference is an affordable event for area residents, but some expenses associated with bringing nationally recognized experts to the conference cannot be avoided. Each registration fee helps to cover some expenses (such as meals and refreshments) but the conference is largely funded by the generosity of our sponsors. Please take a moment to visit the page highlighting our conference sponsors.

What is included with my registration?

Everything! Registration includes one seat at the conference presentations, lunch on each conference day as well as snacks and refreshments, and a continental breakfast on day two.

When does registration open?

Registration opens July 25, 2016. At that time, the registration page will be active on the Domenici Institute website and anyone on the Institute’s mailing list will receive a printed announcement by mail. To be added to the Domenici Institute mailing list, call 575-646-2066.

How should I register?

You are encouraged to register online at domenici.nmsu.edu beginning July 25. However, registrations and payments are also accepted via phone or mail from July 25 through 5 p.m. on Sept. 12. If space is still available, some registrations will be accepted onsite at the convention center (starting Wednesday), but lunch service will not be guaranteed. Check availability with the Registration Help Desk when you arrive to the convention center.

An individual (non-student) registration is $50 before Sept. 1 (increases to $75 in September) and university students are free. However, students must register in order to attend. NMSU faculty and staff (non-students) may register with a department index as part of the online registration form or they may select “Regular Registration (non-student)” to pay by personal credit card or personal check.

For government and corporate participants using a purchase order, please contact the Domenici Institute at
DI@nmsu.edu or call 575-646-2066.

Is there a deadline for registration?

Registrations will be accepted until Monday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. If space is still available, some registrations will be accepted onsite at the convention center (starting Wednesday), but lunch service will not be guaranteed. Check availability with the Registration Help Desk when you arrive to the convention center.

Are there any discounts for military, senior citizens or other groups?

We invite all university students to attend the conference at no charge. This includes university students from NMSU as well as other academic institutions.

If high school groups wish to attend, please call 575-646-2066 to inquire. While lunch service may not be available to your group (at no cost), we still may be able to seat your group for the conference presentations.

No other discounts are available at this time. We make every effort to ensure that this conference is an affordable event for area residents. We seek to engage everyone in public policy issues important to our state and nation. While the registration fee covers some costs, the conference is largely funded by the generosity of our sponsors. Please take a moment to visit the page highlighting our conference sponsors.

Once I register, will I receive a ticket in the mail? What is required for entrance?

In an effort to simplify the registration process and reduce administrative costs, we do not issue tickets or a special confirmation via U.S. Mail. When you arrive to the convention center, just stop at the registration desk and provide your name.

For those who register online, a confirmation will be sent to the email address you use to register. You are encouraged to print that confirmation and bring it with you to check in at the registration table.

For those who pay by mail or phone, your payment is processed within 3 to 5 days. If you would like to confirm that payment has been received by the Domenici Institute, please send an email to DI@nmsu.edu.

When do I need to arrive to the convention center?

Please allow enough time to stop at our registration desk to pick up your name badge, program and to find a seat in the exhibit hall. The registration area will be especially busy during the first morning so please plan a little extra time if that is when you plan to arrive.

The registration desk will be open throughout the entire conference so, if you are only attending part of the conference, you can stop at the registration desk to pick up your name badge and conference materials at any time.

On Sept. 14, the doors will open at 8 a.m. and the conference program will begin at 10 a.m. On Sept. 15, the doors will open at 7 a.m. and the conference program will begin at 8 a.m.

How is seating arranged?

We do have reserved seating for our sponsors and student panelists and those tables will be labeled accordingly. All other seating is open and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

I have an ADA request or special concern. What do I do?

If you have a special need and require an accommodation, please notify us in writing at least five business days before the event. It is our intent to provide accessibility to any participant with a disability upon reasonable notice and without requiring action which would result in a fundamental alteration in the nature of the program or an undue financial burden. Please send an email to DI@nmsu.edu.

I have already registered but need to cancel my registration. What are my options?

If you have registered for the conference and need to cancel your registration, a refund will be allowed if notice is provided, in writing, to the Domenici Institute no later than the Friday before the conference. Please direct all requests for refund to DI@nmsu.edu and put “Refund” in the subject line.

If the registrant has paid online via the website and by credit card, refunds will be processed within three weeks following the conclusion of the conference.

If the registrant has paid by credit card via phone or mail, refunds will be processed within three weeks following the conclusion of the conference.

If the registrant has paid by check, regrettably, the refund process is cumbersome. The registrant will be required to complete paperwork and the refund process may take two months.

If the registrant is an NMSU faculty or staff member who has paid by department index, the charge will be reversed via journal entry within three weeks following the conclusion of the conference.

Registrants who are “no-shows” for the conference or cancel their registration after Friday, Sept. 9, will not qualify for a refund.

Although university students can register and attend for free, they are still required to send the Domenici Institute notice of cancellation. As with any registration, we reserve a seat and fund a meal (if applicable) so please notify the Institute via email (DI@nmsu.edu) if you cannot attend.

I have certain dietary restrictions. How do I request a special meal?

If you have a special dietary need, please submit your request for accommodation at least five business days before the conference date to DI@nmsu.edu.

Can the audience ask questions of the conference speakers?

No. A primary objective of the Domenici Institute is to provide university students a unique opportunity to engage with recognized experts in a variety of topics of critical importance to the nation. Consequently, only selected students may ask questions. Each spring, the Institute invites universities to nominate students to serve as panelists at the conference. Twenty students are then selected to participate. Visit the Domenici Student Panelist Program page to learn more.

How do I apply to be a Domenici Student Panelist?

The Domenici Institute invites student nominations from university administrators and faculty in New Mexico each spring. Twenty students are then selected to participate. By mid-February of each year, the program announcement with nomination instructions is posted to the Domenici Institute website. Student panelists are the only members of the audience allowed to ask questions of the speakers.
